The Project
This will be the fourth house built by the Seminole Ridge High School Construction Academy for Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County. This house is designated for an infill lot in the City of Lake Worth, Florida (see “Drawings & Site” for information about the property).
The Academy now has a new contractor business partner, the Weitz Construction Company, as its named partner. The Academy is now called the “Weitz Academy of Construction at Seminole Ridge High School.” House #4 started construction in January of 2015 and will be shipped to the property in December of 2015. Habitat has not yet selected the partner family for this particular home.
All construction work on the house modules and roof sections will be done exclusively by the students in the school’s shop. This includes all wood framing, roof truss fabrication of the 6, dried-in roof sections, stud walls, ceiling joists, electrical and plumbing rough-in work, windows and doors installation, insulation, and drywall up through application of a knock-down finish. The foundation and sitework will be completed by Habitat at the property. A second high school program also partners with this home building program. The Royal Palm Beach High School Air Conditioning Academy students, and their mentor partner,s will install the complete air conditioning system once the house is assembled at the property. The house, once shipped and assembled at the site, will be ready for cabinets, final plumbing and electrical, flooring, painting, exterior siding, roof shingles, front porch construction, attached shed construction, and landscaping. These tasks will be completed by Habitat’s staff, the partner family, and volunteers. The anticipated move-in time for the partner family is March of 2016.
