HOUSE #9
Residence for a Habitat family
520 SW 4th Street, City of Belle Glade, FL
The Academy started construction of its 8th house for Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County on January 14, 2020. The students have shown that experience pays, with each successive house being completed in less time, with higher quality, and with less mistakes. But, then there was a thing called a pandemic. Construction stopped for almost a year because life stopped and attending school stopped. As of the current school year that began in August of 2021, students started back in school and construction could begin in earnest again.
This current house, as with the most recently completed house, will be going to a property in the city of Belle Glade in Palm Beach County. The architect and the city of Belle Glade Building Department will be performing all inspections on the house and will integrate teaching about the inspection process into the students’ construction work on the house. As of the end of November, the construction work at the school by the students was completed up through a painted interior. The current house will be loaded onto 7 tractor-trailers on Thursday, December 9th, driven to an overnight holding lot in Belle Glade, and then installed onto the awaiting foundation, Friday, December 10th. By around 3 PM on the 10th, all assembly will be completed, the house dried in, and the doors locked.
